We’re betting the answer is “No.” As proof, here is a collection of “Vinegar Valentines.” The cynical, sarcastic cards began to appear in the middle to late 1800s. By the turn of the century cartoonists were creating their own lines. Most of the cards reproduced here — with the exception of our contemporary “Postman” — were published in the early 1900s.
