Taylor and Ren Babcock were married in a sentimental spot, the Southern Pines United Methodist Church, the same church where the bride’s parents wed. Growing up in Pinehurst, Taylor spent many adolescent years in United Methodist and preferred a Moore County wedding to one in Raleigh, couple’s current city. The Babcocks brought their vision for a romantic garden wedding to life, holding the reception outside on the Weymouth Center lawn under bistro lights. The groomsmen were gifted Peter Millar golf shirts, holding true to Pinehurst’s favorite pastime. Having enlisted help from the best vendors and friends they could find, the Babcocks can confidently say their wedding day was the best day of their lives.

The idea of a destination wedding was tossed aside when Jennifer and Andrew Ervin realized having all the family present, including the bride’s 91-year-old grandfather, was more important. Although they resided in Raleigh, Pinehurst offered the best location to gather the couple’s loved ones, and with the help of local wedding planner Jenn DiTuro, the Ervin’s held a garden-chic ceremony at The Arboretum in Pinehurst. A horse-drawn carriage carried Jennifer through the village to the site of her and Andrew’s first look at each other, and Camp Cocktail, an old-school camper turned bar, provided refreshments. Dancing with her grandfather to Van Morrison’s “Into the Mystic” is a memory Jennifer will never forget, and one that no destination wedding could have replaced.

When Maryland native Lauren Shumaker and Dustin Coffey met at the Campbell House in Southern Pines, they did not think that they’d be getting engaged there so many years later. But seven years later, there they were, back in the place where they first met — and on October 1, the couple married on the exact date of their seven year anniversary. It was the little details like these that made their big day so special to them — as wedding favors, they handed out little bags of coffee in honor of their newly shared last name.

After Raleigh couple Hannah and Andy Midgette got engaged in 2015, they spent time looking for the perfect venue, but nothing fit them just right. Enter Twin Fields Horse Farm, the Southern Pines farm where Hannah used to ride horses as a child. It was the perfect place for their guests to dance, enjoy the night, yet still have the room to roam around and explore the natural beauty of Southern Pines horse country. Guests played corn hole and giant Jenga and fed on pulled pork catered by the Humble Pig. The wedding’s classic color palette of blush pinks and lush greenery played off the farm’s beauty, making for a timeless night.

For Amy and Adam Ross, Tropical Storm Hermine hitting Southern Pines the day before the wedding could not deter a beautiful wedding day. The little details contributed to a beautiful, romantic ceremony held at Weymouth Center for the Arts and Humanities. The details are what made the day special for the bride — from the vintage lace hankie she carried to her “something blue” heart cut from her grandfather’s clothing and stitched into the back of her dress. Guests ate off plates Amy found in different antique stores, and a puzzle turned guest book paid homage to Adam’s family’s love of puzzles.

Natalie and Justin Richardson both grew up in Moore County, but have friends and family from out of town. In order to introduce guests to the great state of North Carolina, Natalie and Justin held a “Welcome to North Carolina”-themed rehearsal dinner. The guests dined on a roasted pig wearing a UNC bandanna and sunglasses, the bar featured Southern Pines Brewing Company beers, and guests took home goodie bags filled with the couple’s favorite North Carolina items. It was a perfect introduction to a wonderful wedding weekend.

Carla and Jason Ricks grew up in Fayetteville, attended college in Greensboro, and currently live in Washington, D.C. For a couple so all over the place, the only place that made sense to have the wedding was in Pinehurst, where Carla’s family currently resides. With the majority of guests coming from out of town, Pinehurst was the perfect destination for friends and family to reunite, play golf, and enjoy the Fourth of July weekend. Multiple houses were rented for family and friends on the rental website Vacation Rentals By Owner, so attendees could be comfortable during the weekend and party away without having to worry about disturbing hotel guests.

Pennsylvania native Kristin moved down to Moore County for a teaching position in 2014. At the urging of her co-worker, she attended a rugby game in Southern Pines, where she met Justin, a member of the Southern Pines Rugby Club. The two met while having drinks after the rugby match and hit it off instantly — after a year of dating they were married. The couple’s laid-back personalities contributed to their casual and classy wedding at the Carolina Hotel. The bride and groom each wore custom-designed Nike sneakers as they walked down the aisle.

For Alexa and Patrick Allen’s wedding, incorporating the element of flight was a no-brainer — the couple got engaged after skydiving, Patrick is going to be a future airman in the Air Force, and Alexa’s late father was on the United States Army’s Parachute Team. In honor of her father, Alexa had the Veteran Parachute Team, which included her dad’s best friend, sky dive her father’s ashes onto the grounds of the Fair Barn in Pinehurst, during the wedding’s cocktail hour. When the Veteran Parachute Team landed onto a huge American flag, they presented Alexa with the ashes. It was the perfect way to honor the bride’s father and include him in the wedding.

Madeleine & Jay Rowley

MADELEINE & JAY ROWLEY

Virginia natives Madeleine and Jay Rowley did not want the typical Washington, D.C., wedding. So when deciding on a wedding venue, the Rowleys looked across state lines and chose a Southern Pines horse farm, Mile Away Farm, owned by Madeleine’s aunt, to host their reception. Mile Away Farm was the kind of special and unique place to the couple, much unlike the hotel ballroom receptions of Northern Virginia. The wedding took a lot of work and planning since the couple were living in Colorado at the time — yet, the day still turned out perfectly. The barn was repaired and cleaned for the event, flowers from Aldena Frye livened up the barn, and Southern barbecue, catered from Elliott’s on Linden, perfectly completed the wedding’s Southern, classy, rustic theme.
