Stephanie & Jon Davis

STEPHANIE & JON DAVIS

While visiting his family for Christmas, Southern Pines native Jon Davis proposed to Stephanie Hillman at the holiday gingerbread display in the Carolina Hotel. After an eight-month engagement they said their vows at Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Church. For the elegant, flower-inspired wedding, the bride found creative ways to incorporate her beloved golden retriever, Teddy. The signature cocktail of the night was “The Teddy,” and guests parted with party favors of popcorn, one of the pet’s favorite treats. Personal touches, like wrapping the bouquet in satin from Stephanie’s grandmother’s wedding gown, added sentimental accents. The veil was borrowed from her sister, and has been worn by all the women in the family. Having special pieces from her family made the day even more perfect for Stephanie.

Brittany & Alex Buckley

BRITTANY & ALEX BUCKLEY

After meeting at a 2016 NFL playoffs party held by a mutual friend, Brittany and Alex Buckley started dating and quickly knew they had stumbled upon a special relationship. Both sports lovers and entrepreneurs, it didn’t take long before they started parent introductions. At the start, Brittany, a Pinehurst native, resided in Charlotte, while Alex lived in Raleigh. The couple now live in Southern Pines, where Brittany runs the dance school Carolina Performing Arts Center. The Buckleys planned a classic, blush and ivory toned wedding at Community Presbyterian Church. Bridesmaids were gifted a day at the Pinehurst Spa, while groomsmen received engraved grill sets.

Shyane & Greg Mello

SHYANE & GREG MELLO

A rarity in the history of grooms-to-be, Greg Mello took charge of wedding planning while his future bride was busy with college and clinicals. The Mellos started dating their junior year at Pinecrest High School, and the high school sweethearts chose The Fair Barn, where their prom was held, for the ceremony and reception venue. A memorial table was included among the rustic décor, with pictures of friends and family who had passed but would have been in attendance. Shyane’s bouquet was comprised of a Native American feather to acknowledge her Lumbee Indian heritage. The planning process was quite the learning experience for Greg, but the Mellos both agree it was the fairy tale wedding they had dreamed.

Laura & Timothy Faircloth

LAURA & TIMOTHY FAIRCLOTH

During a short six-month engagement, the Faircloths planned a simple and timeless wedding at First Presbyterian Church of Carthage, the church Laura attended while growing up in Moore County. Tim didn’t have many demands in the process, but did insist the wedding colors be classic black and white rather than the pre-planned navy and champagne. The couple faced the challenge of including every part of their large, blended family in some aspect of the wedding, no matter how small. They made it happen, and spent the night celebrating the marriage and merging of two families.

Jourdan & Ryan Book

JOURDAN & RYAN BOOK

Jourdan Callaway Book swore the last place she would ever get married was Ironwood, where she works as general manager. And that is exactly where she ended up holding her wedding ceremony and reception. After meeting at Ironwood in 2012, Ryan and Jourdan started dating shortly after, and the rest is history, as they say. The bride searched for an exclusive, unique location; somewhere no one had been married before. Having no luck, her mom and bridesmaids suggested Ironwood. A particularly woodsy area of the restaurant’s patio was cleared for the ceremony to create a cozy, private “secret garden.” Mimosas and a three-course dinner from Ironwood chefs were the perfect accompaniments to the Books’ simple but charmingly unique wedding.

Taylor & Ren Babcock

TAYLOR & REN BABCOCK

Taylor and Ren Babcock were married in a sentimental spot, the Southern Pines United Methodist Church, the same church where the bride’s parents wed. Growing up in Pinehurst, Taylor spent many adolescent years in United Methodist and preferred a Moore County wedding to one in Raleigh, couple’s current city. The Babcocks brought their vision for a romantic garden wedding to life, holding the reception outside on the Weymouth Center lawn under bistro lights. The groomsmen were gifted Peter Millar golf shirts, holding true to Pinehurst’s favorite pastime. Having enlisted help from the best vendors and friends they could find, the Babcocks can confidently say their wedding day was the best day of their lives.

Jennifer & Andrew Ervin

JENNIFER & ANDREW ERVIN

The idea of a destination wedding was tossed aside when Jennifer and Andrew Ervin realized having all the family present, including the bride’s 91-year-old grandfather, was more important. Although they resided in Raleigh, Pinehurst offered the best location to gather the couple’s loved ones, and with the help of local wedding planner Jenn DiTuro, the Ervin’s held a garden-chic ceremony at The Arboretum in Pinehurst. A horse-drawn carriage carried Jennifer through the village to the site of her and Andrew’s first look at each other, and Camp Cocktail, an old-school camper turned bar, provided refreshments. Dancing with her grandfather to Van Morrison’s “Into the Mystic” is a memory Jennifer will never forget, and one that no destination wedding could have replaced.

Lauren & Dustin Coffey

LAUREN & DUSTIN COFFEY

When Maryland native Lauren Shumaker and Dustin Coffey met at the Campbell House in Southern Pines, they did not think that they’d be getting engaged there so many years later. But seven years later, there they were, back in the place where they first met — and on October 1, the couple married on the exact date of their seven year anniversary. It was the little details like these that made their big day so special to them — as wedding favors, they handed out little bags of coffee in honor of their newly shared last name.

Hannah & Andy Midgette

HANNAH & ANDY MIDGETTE

After Raleigh couple Hannah and Andy Midgette got engaged in 2015, they spent time looking for the perfect venue, but nothing fit them just right. Enter Twin Fields Horse Farm, the Southern Pines farm where Hannah used to ride horses as a child. It was the perfect place for their guests to dance, enjoy the night, yet still have the room to roam around and explore the natural beauty of Southern Pines horse country. Guests played corn hole and giant Jenga and fed on pulled pork catered by the Humble Pig. The wedding’s classic color palette of blush pinks and lush greenery played off the farm’s beauty, making for a timeless night.

Amy & Adam Ross

AMY & ADAM ROSS

For Amy and Adam Ross, Tropical Storm Hermine hitting Southern Pines the day before the wedding could not deter a beautiful wedding day. The little details contributed to a beautiful, romantic ceremony held at Weymouth Center for the Arts and Humanities. The details are what made the day special for the bride — from the vintage lace hankie she carried to her “something blue” heart cut from her grandfather’s clothing and stitched into the back of her dress. Guests ate off plates Amy found in different antique stores, and a puzzle turned guest book paid homage to Adam’s family’s love of puzzles.
